Dahlia Tubers! New for the 2025 Season
All our tubers are grown here at Hidden Acre Farm and like everything else we do, they are of the absolute highest quality. Our certified organic tubers were hand-dug from the fields at the end of October, inspected by our flower crew before cleaning before being during. Once dry the root clumps were separated and the individual tubers stored in pine shavings in our temperature-controlled root cellar over the winter. For 2025 we are offering our absolute favorite ball dahlias, these are true workhorses in the field and garden, are our highest producing varieties and offer the longest bloom life compared to other varieites.
We’re located in zone 6a our soils are sandy to silty loam with 7% organic matter. All our Dahlias are grown our with for cut flower production in mind and we select and for stem length/vase. Our gorwing system has evolved over the years: In our raised bed system our tubers spaced at 9” apart in two rows spaced 15” apart (quite tight, promotes longer stems). We prepare our raised growing beds before planting with an inch of compost at the beginning of the season and they are drip irrigated and trellised/coralled using wooden steaks/tine. For the 2024 season, we moved away from planting into landscape fabric/plastic and spot watered when needed. Our small scale makes it easy to keep a handle on plant health and disease, we are lucky in that we have seen zero cases of leafy or crown Gall.
When it comes to quality control, we benefit of being a smaller operation! We can guarantee you’ll be receiving tubers of the highest quality in perfect growing condition, while we can’t account for user error we’ll do everything we can to ensure you achieve success and a PDF growing guide will be included with every shipment.
